Credit bureaus have specific rules which they must follow.  Below are some of the guidelines they must adhere to when reporting your credit rating to those who inquire.  The more you know about what to expect, as it pertains to their rules, the better off you will be.

WARRANTIES:

They do not warrant the completeness, timeliness or accuracy of any of the data and/or programs ("information") that they provide to the fullest extent permitted by law.  The information that they supply is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including, but not limited to, implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title or non-infringement.

DISCLAIMERS:

In no event will they, or any of their affiliates, be liable to any party for any direct, indirect, special or other consequential damages for any use of or reliance upon the information that they provide including, without limitation, lost profits, business interruption, loss of programs or other data, even if they are expressly advised of the possibility of such damages.

CONFIDENTIALITY:

Comments, suggestions or materials sent or transmitted to these agencies, shall be deemed to be non-confidential.  Subject to the conditions described in the privacy clause of their contract, they have no obligation of any kind with respect to such credit information and they are free to use and distribute it to others without limitation.

The above-information was taken directly from one of the credit bureau's web sites.  To learn more about your credit rights and what you can expect when it comes to your credit history, you should also visit the "Credit Clean Up"  and "Credit Questions" sections of this website.

Be wary of businesses who tell you they can get your credit report for you for a fee (like MSN for $49.95).  You can get it yourself for $8.50 by mailing your request to the credit bureaus, or you can click on the link to Consumer Info.com and obtain it for free.

Listed below are the three (3) credit reporting bureaus and how you can contact them.  We have also outlined the fees and requirements necessary to secure your own credit report from these agencies.
