God surrounded me tonight…

   in His brilliance,

      in His warmth,

         in an electrifying tempest

            that rushed over me

                like an impervious wave.

                      I felt His power,

                         His understanding,

                             His gentle hand

                                nudging me in

                                   His direction's choice.

                                        "What am I to do?"

                                             I queried.

                                                   "Where am I to go?"

                                                          my disconsolate cry

                                                               lifted to the night.

                                                                    "What is the purpose

                                                                of all that we endure

                                                           in the name of spirituality?"

                                                 And,

                                          there in the night

                                   amid the hootie hoo hoo's

                             of a sleepy-eyed owl

                      and the river's plaintive sigh

                 on its way to nowhere;

          I felt the answer

                that finally whispered

                     through the trees.

                           "Be still,

                                   I am with you,

                                           you need merely

                                                     to follow my lead…"
