"My Friend"

A kind remark and gentle touch

Often mean so very much.

I felt there was no place to go,

No haven or shelter for peace to know.

You looked at me with teary eyes,

And showed compassion without disguise.

I know your heart was breaking, too,

And only God could pull us through.

So, when times are bleak and drear,

And our hearts are full of fear,

We draw our strength from those we love,

Our dearest friends, and God above,

And wonder why, as Job of old,

God chose to sift our very soul.
