"Winter"
Winter is bleak and dark and gray,
It awaits the dawn of the first Spring day.
The earth lies pregnant with the child of Spring,
Awaiting the time life forth to bring.
The time will come for the child to be born,
And hide the ugliness of Winter's scorn.
Life will come forth to live and bloom,
And nurse the earth from winter's gloom.
The child will grow and wax and wane,
And plant its seed to live again.
Death comes in the latter Fall,
And we seldom stop to survey it all.
Winter must come for Spring to be.
That's the way God planned it, don't you see?
Though Winter is bleak and dark and gray,
It promises the dawn of the first Spring day.
